Feb 1/05 - Oh February, how you came so quickly...
bonjour.
hope all is well with everyone. it has been some time since i last wrote in here... six months to be exact, so i guess it's high time (note: also sick of guitarist ryan gordon berating me for lack of entries... haha).
some major changes occurring the SE camp, namely our drummer graham inglis has decided to move on and explore new avenues. definitely want to take this opportunity to thank him for his devotion to this project for the last year and a half. with that, we will be focusing on acoustic shows until a full band is assembled again. in the meantime, lots of writing is going on and i'm very content to get back to my 'roots'... Hello all.
Mere summer days are coming to a close and school starts in a few more weeks. I can’t believe that university graduation is on the brink… where did the last three years go?! I know I’ve learned something… but probably more so in the T.O. culture, rather than in a classroom…
Anyways… the new EP has a name!! I decided to go with “Moving Forward Means Going Back”. Perhaps symbolic of this point in time… trying to always remember what got oneself to where there are currently, but always looking ahead and forward into the future. That’s what I’m telling myself anyways, haha. We are doing the final remix and remaster this weekend, then it’s just a matter of time!! Hopefully they will be pressed by early September, and a release party will happen before Christmas. The band and I are so excited about releasing it, though have been finding that as time winds down, nervousness/anxiousness kicks into overdrive. We worked with an amazing producer, Greg Dawson, and he keeps reminding me that you’re always your worst critic. Still doesn’t kill the naseau and ‘nervous as shit’ feeling in my stomach though… haha. At any rate, it is almost complete and I’m looking forward to share new songs with you all.
Besides recording and trying to come up with a game plan for the new release, summer has been pretty laid back. I was metre sticks away from Madonna at her July 21st concert at the ACC (damn Ticket Master prices) and it was incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it – I find after seeing a really great show that I never remember the whole experience, like it was a dream or something… it was unbelievable… ‘True Blue’ was the first song I had memorized as a kid. My mom had put it on a tape repeated times, and by the age of three, knew the songs beginning to end.
Hope you’re all doing well and I’ll look forward to seeing you all in coming months.
Best,
Siân

Crazy week spent in Toronto, playing shows and hanging out as part of the North by Northeast Festival. This was our second year taking part and we were very excited to be asked back for another round.
B-Side on Wednesday was hype... played with numerous cool groups. Tanis Alia from Australia kicked it and friends from London, Popjoy, ruled as usual. Be sure to get out and see this band play - www.popjoy.ca - I guarantee a good time!!
Thursday was our official NXNE showcase night at the Swallow Lounge on College. Got to hear some great music and meet some very talented artists.
Friday at the Rivoli saw our Brampton comrades, Wheels on the Bus, tear it up. Another cool surprise of the night was watching Oliver Black's set. They were really amazing, pure r n r.
Please be sure to come out to the Rivoli on Tuesday, June 22nd. This will be our LAST live performance for a while. We're scheduled in the studio for the month of July, but will blazing through cities for the month of August. However, come out if you can!! See you soon... SE.

Feb 8/04 - "just spit on it"...
hello everyone.
hope you're all well. sorry for the lack in journal entries. school has been busy (though it's almost over... this year has flown). we've had a busy couple weeks, the men and i. the brampton show was off the hook!! so many wonderful, familiar faces out to support. we can't thank you enough. minus a few technical difficulties the show went off without glitches - our mom's rockin' out in the front row put smiles on the faces... haha. lee's palace was a G.O.T. as well. thanks again to the daybreak and soundman, eric. we will be performing at the university of toronto spring party (cat's eye at victoria college) later this month, though date MAY be subject to change... as soon as we know, you will as well.

Jan 4/04 - "drop the F.B."
hope you're all well and had a safe and happy holiday.
the boys and i opened up 2004 with a show on the 2nd at sneaky's and an acoustic performance on the 3rd at free times. thanks to everyone who came out and supported - awesome. we have been asked to play numerous shows in the next five weeks, so we hope to see everyone's face again soon.
band members, peter lowas and dave kupferschmidt have decided to focus on their scholastic endeavours in the new year - they will be greatly missed and we wish them both all the best. as it stands now, the S.E. crew is only four of us, and i'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new bass player, aaron drost.
the new EP is finished - thanks again to engineer steve rizun (driveentertainment.net) for putting it all together. it will be available at all future shows, so please check it out. MP3 clips will also be available on this website soon.
best wishes to you all. cheers - SE.

monday morning = essay hell.
monday night = emm gryner rock 'n roll.
much inspiration from the DIY queen in canadian music. she's so damn good - it was worth the trip to jane and finch (or york university). check her out at: www.emmgryner.com. i'm thinking "stained all through my insides" will be the title of the EP (if alright with the associated party involved... ha!!)

Nov 30/03 - r n r weekend...
ryan gordon and i discussed gene wilder and the validity of charlie and the chocolate factory on the drive to orchard studio for friday's webcast. for once in a very long time nervousness got the best of us during the first couple songs. we went from a smokey bar the previous week to videocameras in the face for an eight song set. we came home to the parentals and friends cheering... which was nice. thanks to dave ferri at orchard (www.orchard-studio.com) for the great opportunity to spread our tunes internationally.
the boys and i finished up our new EP on saturday - big thanks to steve rizun for all his help/expertise, willingness to deal with graham for ten hours - hahaha... jokes. stay tuned for the EP release...

bonjour.
hope everyone is doing well. we started our labour day showcase last night at the gravity club in london. here are the many highlights: "ghoul... ahhhhhhhhh", a fenced in stage (literally), two rammed cars, graham talking the two hour ride there and two hour ride home, toronto band, cornerstone (thanks for lending your DI guys!!), gordo's perfect note, two mullets with max ice beer, cowboy rock and roll, pete's hat, and sadly, ryan's last show. a big thanks to our bassist, ryan van berkel, who is heading off to his first year of university.
everyone enjoy their long weekend!! we will be headlining the cameron house this labour day monday with the kinetics. start time is around 9:30 - hope to see some of you there.

Aug 22/03 - give'r on the give'rs...
allo.
can't believe august is almost over - the many shows helped my summer office job time pass quickly. thanks to everyone who came and supported wednesday at holy joe's. interesting little venue, reminded me of a living room (i.e. couches and all!!) - we were the lonely 'rock' band that evening, but it was fun none the less. big thanks to alexis mitchell and adam rabbi, who we've been lucky enough to share the stage with many times this summer.
just a reminder that we have two shows coming on labour day weekend - friday in london (ryan van berkel's goodbye show...) and monday in toronto. check out the live shows section for all the details.

Jul 21/03 - free times = good times...
hi everyone.
hope you're all well. first off, apologies for the website and email being down all last week. we're still trying to recover lots of previous information lost - as soon as it is found in cyberspace, it will be back up.
a lot has gone on since the last 'journal' entry - cancelled shows, new shows, etc - what is posted now is completely up to date. hope to see some of you this summer.
ryan gordon and i played this weekend at the free times, opening for alexis mitchell and adam rabbi. we played a show together earlier this month and it was such a pleasure to share the stage with both of them again. thanks guys!! it was a fun (despite broken guitar strings two songs in), but whatev's... a good time regardless. check them out next sunday, july 27th at the reverb. thanks to everyone who came and supported.
