Siān Evans has finally come into her own. That seems a strange statement to make of someone who is only twenty years old, but when you've been singing and playing music for as long as Evans has, you'd understand. "It has taken a long time to get to this point, where I'm really ready to take this on fully," explains the singer-songwriter.
Singing since the age of six and playing drums since the age of eleven, Evans has always wanted music to be her career. Around the age of twelve she taught herself guitar and began writing her own songs. In her hometown of Brampton, Ontario, she played many different roles in several bands including drums for all-girl group, Circe's Vendetta and fronting the band, Elicit. Elicit gave her the opportunity to open for such bands as Scratching Post, American Hi-Fi, and Treble Charger. "Being in Elicit was a great experience but I felt like I could never fully be myself in a band setting. I'm much happier as a solo artist where I can control most aspects of the music."
So what to expect from this down to earth, suburban girl? You can expect beautiful vocals, melodic acoustic guitars and catchy, hum-along songs. Sian cites Sarah Harmer and Holly McNarland as two of her inspirations. Her debut EP, The Third Place, was recorded by Nick McTaggart, who is well known in Toronto's emo/punk scene, containing four songs which she wrote over the past year and a half. Evans writes about her experiences and relationships, the lyrics honest and simple. Her passion for music comes through loud and clear in her stage performances. Quiet and beautiful one moment, powerful and energetic the next; the girl has range.
Look for Evans to begin touring in the late spring of 2003.
